From an Ayurvedic perspective, food can become a substitute for love or social appreciation. Eating in order to overcome and compensate feelings of sadness, reject, loneliness, grief etc. can be a cause of overeating. In addition, also hormonal changes, in women before menstruation (PMS), can lead to cravings for sweet and fatty foods.
