Hay fever is not fever rather allergic inflammatory disorder.It affects nasal Mucosa.Mainly it affects eyes and nose.Allergens can be pollens from flowers, crops, trees, dust mites, animals dander, dust, mold ect.Its mostly seasonal and happens during the spring and early summer or autumn (seasonal).In some people it happens during whole year (chronic).When chronic it means your immune system is weak as well.
According to classical Ayurveda books Hay fever is also resulting from Decreased digestive fire i.e mandagni and incompatible diets ( like milk products with seafood/ meat, or fruits.)
Its considered as Vata - Kapha condition.
Symptoms:
Running nose (Nasa srava)
Watery eyes
Itchy eyes, nose, and throat
Frequent sneezing (Kshavathu )
Headache (Shirogaurabhata)
Ayurvedic treatment of Hay fever
Ayurveda aims to treat the causes than the symptoms .In the first place avoiding the causative factors hold key for managing the Hay fever-means avoiding the allergens told before. Dietory restrictions on milk products, seafood, white flour, white sugar products helps avoiding the food allergens.Also avoid Heavy (guru) diets, cold foods, curd, milk products, swimming, alcohol etc.Increase intake of Lukewarm water, hot/warm soups, legumes etc.Preparations from curcuma, Neem, Shirisha ect are helpful in allergy.1 teaspoon or curcuma with warm water or honey daily can help a lot.
Ayurveda therapies like Nasya and Dhumpana (herbal fumigation) is to be done to alleviate the dosha (toxins) also
